As this page was special for the engine oil pickup tube ,maybe some of us called it as oil screen engine oil strainer.

Engine oil pickup or screen ,engine oil strainer is always coming together with oil pan .,the main function of the engine oil pickup tube was get the lubricate oil from engine oil pan to the top of engine to lubricate all the engine part,the engine oil pickup tube work with engine oil pump and oil filter.

The main oil pickup was made by 4 parts:seamless tube ,cap ,screen ,metal bracket.Normally it was made by the steel since it was immersion oil so we didnot worry it to be rust.


1.Raw material steel sheet coil incoming test

The oil pickup tube was made by seamless pipe ,it always come with the bluk batch
The cap and screen with metal bracket was made by the steel sheet plate

Every seamless tube and steel sheet had its Tensile strength, yield strength, elongation,
Every different of the coil had different Mechanical properties,The key of the press deep drawing and tube bending for the engine oil pickup tube was the elongation,we always use the raw material with elongation over 18%,Hereby in China we called this type of raw material as DC04.

I would like to share with you about all detail about the production of the engine oil pickup tube oil screen engine oil strainer.
1.The raw material incoming test ,the raw material was the key for the production ,we so need to take serious for the seamless tube and steel sheet plate for the 
engine oil pickup tube oil screen engine oil strainer.There were two kinds of things we were focus on :
Chemical composition and Mechanical properties

2.We will move the seamless tube to the tube section cutting workshop ,the reason why we use the laser cutting instead of the saw was Improve efficiency, reduce costs,the auto laser cutting machine can make every single seamless pipe length meeting oil pickup tube drawing requirement and save the seamless tube to be waste.

The storage os the warehouse always follow the FIFO fist in first out ,always keep all the data to be traceability,every production station we follow the work instruction (WI) ,inspection:first piece last piece and On-Site Inspection twice a shift.all the record keep it as traceability,if the part was ok then we transfer it to the next workshop 

3.Machining workshop,some of the engine oil pickup tube had thread on itself,instead of use a flange to connect to engine block by studs.so the first step was go ahead with the thread for the oil pickup tube

The machining was done by the CNC control ,so whatever the thread was Imperial, metric, American ,we program it then we start as sample as first piece by thread gauge 
By the way :we will start it first as WI work instruction ,then we carry it out .
The WI was prepared by the APQP team .
Our machining capacity :20-450mm
Twice shift once a day 

 

4.When we prepared the thread on the engine oil pickup tube ,we go ahead the stamping cap and screen for engine oil screen at the same time.
The stamping workshop can carry out a lot of kind process ,whatever the shape of the customer want ,we can make it done within this workshop ,sometime we name it as steel sheet flow workshop to make the steel sheet into the shape we need ,the most important things was keep the tolerance under control :oil pickup head cap ,the connect port for the oil pickup tube .the engine oil pan mounting bolt holes.

5.After the machining of the seamless tube for total length of engine oil pickup tube ,we will go ahead with the bending production process within bending workshop,

The bending production process was a key process for the Ening oil pickup ,auto coolant pipe ,We need to make the seamless pipe to be the shape as we need .So after the bending of the steel pipe to the shape we need ,we will 
use the shape gauge to do the inspection for the steel pipe before to go ahead with next production process.

Maybe some people will ask why dont we use the welding seam tube instead of the seamless tube ,the raw material cost was much more cheaper .
That was such a good question about raw material ,let`s image that when the steel pipe move to the process of bending ,the first inner of the oil pickup tube will increase the thickness on the other side on the opposite the steel pipe will become thinning,during the steel pipe thickness flow ,there maybe a huge possibility that the steel pipe will be crack.So normally we use the seamless pipe instead of the welding pipe to produce the Engine oil pickup tube.

6.Welding brazing welding,After the Steel pipe for engine oil pickup tube was bending and the cap was stamping ,we will make two part connect by brass welding or braze

There were many kinds of the welding :shield welding ,TIG welding ,Braze ,the most Efficient way was by the braze welding ,not matter the appearance or the leaking test ,the Braze give out the best performance 
For the sample and prototype of the engine oil pickup tube ,oil pump screen ,oil strainer ,Engine water coolant pipe ,we will use the manual braze welding ,once the customer approved the sample ,the production process will change the auto Braze.
7.Once the welding was ready ,we will move to the zinc coating production process to protect the engine oil pickup to be rust and improve the appearance.let me show you some photo of the coating production process for you to ref.

8.Rounding the cup of the oil pickup with screen

Once the engine oil pickup tube finished with the coating production process ,we will move ahead with the rounding cup for the steel screen
Normally the stamping was the most fast way to make it ,To keep the edge of the engine oil pickup tube without wave ,we need another set of the mold to round up the cap and oil pump screen to make it as one piece.

 
9.Leaking test,the leaking test was done under 1.2Bar 30 second by water or the air pressure gauge

We make a lot of rubber plug to seal the end of the engine oil pickup tube ,oil pump screen ,engine coolant pipe 
We add the air pressure to 1.2Bar and keep the eye on monitor ,if the indicator keep at 1.2Bar then we consider this part was ok ,but if indicator was suddent drop down ,we will put the engine oil pickup tube on side to rework it by welding or check the leaking point by water pressure .

To develop a engine oil pickup tube ,we need the sample or the drawing from the customer,then we collect the data from the sample ,once the sample data was collect by the handly scanner machine ,we will create the drawing by solidwork ,ug

Then we go ahead with the bending mold and stamping mold for the oil pump screen

To get the stamping mold and bending mold for customer we take the fast way by the CNC machine then go ahead with the polishing process by hand so that surface of the mold didnot make too much scratch of the oil pump screen cup and round up process ,then we assemble the core and the frame together to go ahead with trail production of the oil  pump screen sample .

CMM inspectionfor the critical dimension of the engine oil pickup tube or engine coolant pipe

Whatever is the inspection gauge or the oil pan mold we need to go though the CMM inspection before we put into production 
The critical dimension need to go though the CMM test to get the tolerance for the oil pan mold we design 
Every oil pan had tolerance ,the best way to keep the tolerance as much more strictly than the drawing call out ,so once the steel spring back it was still under the tolerance requirement .
For the first sample of the oil pan we also need it to go thought by CMM for all the bolts holes.then we get the inspection report to save for the future use 
It was a procedure require by quality control system 16949.
