Gravity Die Casting Aluminum casting oil pan 
Most of the engine oil pan or transmission was make by the stamping steel ,but some of them was made by aluminun casting and CNC machining production process,here by we would like to share some of our experience from our customer ,please let me know if you like it ,I can share my customer contact information for you if you like it ,this case was develop casting aluminum pan instead of stamping steel pan

1.Raw material for casting engine oil pan or oil sump deep sump 
The right casting raw material was the key for the engine oil pan ,engine oil sump was a key part for the engine it storage the engine oil inside the pan for lubrication whole engine ,whatever the canshaft ,camshaft ,piston ,connect rod ,they all need the oil for lubrication ,the oil start with the pan thought the oil pump by oil strainer oil screen or we called it as oil pickup tube.
Normally we use A365,A380,6061,7075,2024 raw material for casting the engine oil pan ,the chemical composting as below 
A365 T6 and A380 was much more better for the casting due to the raw material flow and move inside the casting mold.

2.Casting mold prepare for engine oil pan 
1.Get data from the sample of engine oil pan
When we got a oil pan from cutomer and they decide to develop it as aluminum casting engine oil pan instead of the stamping one ,those were the things we need to prepare ,the first step was making a casting mold for engine rear oil sump .The casting was much more easy than the stamping what we need to do was the mold ,the casting engine oil pan mold was the key for the oil sump or oil pan 
The first step for the casting mold for engine oil pan was the data from the sample or 3D drawing from customer,some of us called reverse engineer for engine rear oil sump because OEM factory didnot share the data of the engine oil pan for aftermarket ,so we need to reverse engineer for the oil pan first

Got the sample of engine oil pan 
Uploading the data to stl
We would like to use the handy scanner to get the profile of all the engine oil sump ,Normally the engine oil pan had a lot of profile due to the stamping steel limit ,so what we need to do was getting all the data from it especial the profile 
We will upload the data by stl for the next develop ,whatever we use the solidwork UG Geomagic design,we need the data as stl then we transfer to stp or igs as edit for next casting improve.

3D plastic print for fitment test for the engine block
1.The thickness of the casting aluminum engine oil pan was different than the stamping steel .The min thickness for the engine oil pan should be over 6mm ,the stamping steel was just about 1.5mm thickness ,so to improve the capacity and fit the engine block bolts holes,we need to test the fitment before the casting mold was kicking off
2.The 3D plastic print can be control the tolerance within 0.5mm so we think that was enough to test the engine oil pan .
Once we got the confirmed from the customer then we can kick off the casting engine oil pan mold ,otherwise we need to get the correct for the oil pan where it interfere with the other part then we re 3D print again to test the fitment 
3.The fitment was very important step ,if we didnot do it we may meet the situation the part cant be install on the car in the sample production then we need to correct ,so to save the cost for develop aluminum casting engine pan that was quite important
2.The casting mold kick off production for engine oil sump
If we pass the first step of kick off fitment then we move to the casting mold production for truck engine oil pan

Engine oil pan casting process
1.When we got the raw material and melt it with temperature about 700°,we take the aluminum water from the melt tank 
2.Then we fill the aluminum water inside the mold
3.When it was cool down we get out the part from the mold
4. Gravity Die Casting for engine oil pan 
Why we choose gravity die casting
-  Excellent mechanical properties : Slow cooling improves metallurgical integrity.  
-  Good surface finish : Better than sand casting, though not as smooth as die casting.  
-  Cost-effective for medium volumes : Balances tooling costs and production speed.  
-  Moderate tooling costs : Higher than sand casting but lower than die casting.  
-  Limited complexity : Less suited for intricate designs compared to die casting.  
-  Longer cycle times : Slower than die casting but faster than sand casting. 
 Best for : Medium-volume orders where strength and surface quality are critical.
